We have journeyed through 1st and 2nd Corinthians together. Sunday, September 7th, we look at the paradoxes of the Gospel. Paul highlights several paradoxes: joy in sorrow, strength in weakness, life in death, generosity in poverty… for we have heard and now know, and trust experience that in Christ, life is lived with greater freedom, glory, and boldness.
Jesus is the treasure we have been given by God. And the fact that he gives this treasure to us, ‘jars of clay’, is a stunning gift. It reveals God’s immense love for us, as the gift of Christ in us reveals God’s all-surpassing power at work in us, weak as we are.
Read 2nd Corinthians 12:9-10 (strength in weakness), 8:1-3, 9 (generosity in poverty), 6:10 , 7:4 (joy in sorrow), and 4:10-12, 5:14-15 (life in dying) as we engage in an interactive time in God’s Word together Sunday.
