2025-09-21: Pastor Mark Quist – Discipleship: Clay in the Hands of the Potter
Discipleship… What does it mean? How does it look? Maybe a Biblical image will help: Clay in the Hands of the Potter, capital P. Ever seen a potter work with clay? or have you worked with clay yourself? Discipleship is to be completely in the hands and care of God, with a capital G.
Paul said in our recent Corinthians study that we are ‘jars of clay.’ Fact is, in this life, we are marred, cracked, broken, scared and leaky, and in need of being re-formed. So there it is, 1st things 1st, a disciple acknowledges their need to be re-formed, like clay in the hands of the Potter, capital P. And just like clay in the hands of the Potter, what follows is complete surrender for God to do with us what he will. Is this what being a disciple of Jesus looks like for you? Acknowledging the need for re-formation? Complete surrender for God to do in us, with us, what he will? Or in some way are you holding back?
There it is. Discipleship – like clay in the Potter, capital P. Looking forward to rolling into this series on discipleship. Text for Sunday: Jeremiah 18:1-12. See you Sunday,
Mark
