On today’s PHOENIX magazine podcast, we go on location to Oro Brewing Company in Downtown Mesa.
It’s not your typical beer review episode because I recorded the interview at 9 a.m., so no beers were consumed. But, I did have an awesome chat with owner David Valencia and head brewer Jesse Kortepeter.
Together, they make up the 2022 Brewery of the Year, awarded last October at the Arizona Craft Beer Awards.

Oro won ACBA golds for Fruit Wheat Beer with Trigo Suave, Sabastian’s Porter won in the porter/stout/amber category, and Inside the Park won the Gold/Blonde category.
That’s in addition to the gold medal for Café Oro at GABF and a World Beer Cup silver for Trigo.
Kortepeter and Valencia had a decorated 2022 and they’re coming for more in 2023.
