Jessica Vazquez Torres on Coming Out to Her Family

I felt like a fraud. These people at home were my folks; they were my rock. These were the people who had seen me through everything. And for the first time in my life I felt like I couldn’t trust that … they could theologically find the wherewithal to love me. … I never doubted my parents’ love, but I certainly knew the power of the theology and the power of the epistemological lenses that they were using to look at the world. And I knew that that was going to consistently push them on their capacity to love me.
