Notes: On this episode, we dig deep into the George Floyd protest in downtown Wilmington on Sunday, May 31.
There's a lot to unpack in terms of the protests across the county: What inspired the protests --- and, more importantly, what do the protestors want? Local officials have promised change, but what, specifically, could law enforcement do differently?
Then, what happened at Sunday's protest? Authorities claim four armed men were spotted on the scene, forcing the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office hands. But who were these men? The four reportedly disappeared in the chaos after NHCSO fired tear gas, but no description of or details about them have been released to the public.
And, what about claims that extremists groups were seen downtown --- including allegations that 'Antifa' type protestors from out of town had infiltrated the protest and evidence that racist alt-right groups were downtown earlier on Sunday?
Lastly, what about the stark contrast between the Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff's Office? District Attorney Ben David, who advises both agencies, claimed he saw no difference --- but many in the community feel otherwise. So, what's going on? And is the difference strategic?
