Description

Jason Spiess and Sterling Brown sit down in The Industrial Forest Studios for a production meeting and podcaster planning session. The two discuss a variety of topics, questions of interest and whom might be the podcasters to answer said questions.

Jason continues the pontificational production meeting where he and Sterling are asking “Why doesn’t the IRS give me an itemized receipt?”

“The world would change overnight,” Jason said. “I think it would usher in world peace with the stroke of a pen.”

Sterling and Jason banter back and forth about why an itemized receipt from the IRS would change the local community and local leadership. Especially amongst the wealthy business owners who have received government subsidies, economic development grants and even preferred banker rates.

The power of Lightning Wire, Post It, Xerox and Kleenex’s brand are talked about in the world of marketing. Rule one was “first in wins” and that traditionally gave a company an edge in the marketplace. That isn’t the case anymore since the government has stepped into the marketplace by deciding who gets access to certain capital and people in power.

Jason shares a story about a phone call he received from a legend in sales and marketing. The man is in his mid-70’s, very successful salesman, and threw in the towel as he said “in today’s government controlled marketplace and economic development funnels, The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing are dead”.

The conversation regarding the Sequel Economy continues. The Sequel Economy is where the government, economic development organizations and bankers have started giving tax dollars and grants to the same people and companies’ off spring. The kids of wealthy people and side companies from corporations.

The two use Monsanto as their example as they navigate through how the flow of tax dollars and economic development money works. These examples make their way to a state and local level where the appointed leaders in economic development, banking and government grants have a kind of power that can generate intangible offerings.

“Here’s one example, I talked to one guy the other day and his wife wanted to start a Yoga Studio. After being directed around to different areas it always ends up back in the same funnels,” Jason said. “And in this case, the guy in charge of the economic corporation start up monies is screwing the other yoga instructor on the side across town.”

“So there’s a bit of a conflict of interest there,” Sterling replies.

“Here’s two unrelated and unaffiliated people with the situation who just want to compete in the marketplace because they might have a better product. They might offer a better service,” Jason said. “They might not want to nob some guys knob down on economic street to get to the next level of business.”

The two talk about how many more appointed people have gotten power in the past decade and how an itemized receipt from the IRS would eliminate much of this abuse of power from appointed leaders.
