I am Heather Monthie, your host for this podcast. Today’s episode I am super excited about it is our very first guest on the podcast. If you’ve been listening with me for a couple of years, you know that I record at weird intervals that weird times, this is something I do on the side. And so I just record when I can. So I was really glad to get some people signed up for the to be guests on the podcast that can you know, just you’ll work with crazy schedule sometimes. So this Today’s guest is his name is Joe. He is somebody that I’ve known for many years. And I’ve worked with Joe in the past, I call him a friend. And he’s got some really great information to share with you today about ransomware password managers, talking about how you can help people learn more about cybersecurity. If you are a person who wants to learn more about cyber security, he gives you a lot of really good tips, resources, things to go check out all of the things that we are talking about in this podcast, we don’t have any sponsors on this particular episode. So all the things that he talks about those are, you know, things that he’s recommending things I’m recommending, you know, and you just got to go do your research and figure out what is best for you. But these are some things that you can go check out. So join me, we’re ready to get in. Alright, so we are ready to do this. We have our very first guest here today on the cyber coffee talk podcast. I have Joe herbs with me here. So Joe is somebody that I’ve known for a couple of years, I’ve worked with him in the past, and we have a really great relationship. And I wanted him to come on the podcast to share his knowledge, share his background, and let’s talk a little bit about cybersecurity over some coffee. So, Joe, why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

2:34
Well, thank you. I’m glad I’m here, I appreciate the invite. My name is Joseph Urbazewski and I’ve been doing it slash cyber helping people media since the early 1980s. And I’ve been through everything from Atari all the way up now studying quantum computing, where that’s going. So basically, I’ve been helping others of all kinds, but as getting into the business, whether it’s working with companies advising, consulting, and developing different kinds of strategy, strategies and demonstrations, whatever it takes, and just sharing it.

3:11
So you talked a little bit about quantum computing. And that’s kind of something I’m starting to dig into a little bit more. What What kinds of things have you been looking into with that? And with regards to you know, just First of all, you know, the the technology itself is fascinating, but, you know, how is that? How do you think that’s going to help? It’s going to impact cybersecurity,

3:30
I think the word impact is, is the biggest word we’re going to have to look at here, quite frankly, it’s coming, it’s coming faster than people realize. It’s not like the 50s into the 80s. This is happening fast. And it’s going to change security, especially in cyber across the board wholeheartedly. It’s just going to change the whole game. And we have big companies such as Google, IBM and others trying to sort of corner the market a little bit. And that’s not necessarily ready for the desktop. But as soon as it starts getting into banking, and other industries like that, that’s where it’s gonna make a major impact. Be a quick quick example is a lot of your banks today and World Banks are still using old as 400 computers. I’m talking to stuff you see in the movies like wargames, you know and that kind of stuff is what’s what’s needs to be upgraded, horribly, horribly bad relative to even cybersecurity. So,

4:19
I used to, I used to work on an as 400. That was one of my very first jobs back in the 90s.

4:26
But they’re still out there. Windows XP is still on at least 60 70% of ATM machines, we’ve got to upgrade our infrastructure.

4:34
So I actually had an opportunity to see IBM’s quantum computer they had it at CES a couple years ago. It was the very first year that they had it there and they haven’t they haven’t up on a platform because it’s it’s behind you know, behind glass because it’s got to be temperature controlled humidity control, there can’t be vibration, so they’ve got it up on a platform to help control the vibrations coming off the floor. That kind of stuff. It was, it was really cool to see. Have you have you ever seen? Have you ever seen the quantum computer that IBM has? No, no only stuff on the internet. So yeah, but you see pictures, it’s like, it’s like this, it’s just not what you imagined what a computer, a computer would look like. It’s just, it’s fascinating. So what I’ll do is, in the show notes to the article, I’ll post some pictures that I have from, from CES where I got to see the I got to see the quantum computer that they have there. So that was pretty cool. Um, so one of the hot topics right now, in the cybersecurity industry, or world, I guess, is ransomware. And we’re seeing a lot more ransomware attacks happening. I think, you know, the first ransomware attacks started, you know, several years ago, I know in 2015 is when it was really starting to pick up some momentum there. So you I, I look around on Twitter a lot. I follow a lot of different people on Twitter, and there’s so many, you know, conflicting opinions about whether or not you pay ransom, right. And I can see all sides to that. But I just did a podcast episode and you know, just what is ransomware? And you know what to do if you’re if you’re impacted by that. Okay. So what I want to do then is, let’s talk about, well, what are some of the implications of paying or not paying a ransom? What are your thoughts? I don’t I don’t have an opinion on it, just
