The settlement comes after a lawsuit was filed against the city, individual officers, and the former police chief. The money will be paid from the citys insurance to Emancipate North Carolina, the organization that provided legal assistance. The lawsuit alleges Williams was tased six times, including three times after he was already subdued, despite telling officers he had a heart condition.
