Reconnection // Threading the Future
Description
Presenter Louise Gookey returns to the Reconnection podcast for a second series, exploring our relationship with fashion and how we can positively reconnect with how we buy, wear, care and dispose of our clothing. This year our theme is... "if you could only pick 3 items from your wardrobe to wear for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?”.
In this episode, Louise speaks to the winner of BBC One’s The Great British Sewing Bee in 2024, Luke-Matthew Iveson. Luke is one of the UK’s leading new voices in sewing, craft and design. With a rapidly growing social following and strong engagement, they are regularly featured across national media, with several TV projects in development, and a guest spot on a much-loved prime-time show returning this Christmas. Brand collaborations include Brother Sewing Machines, Premier Inn, Mimiquins and Manchester Printworks, and they have appeared at The Stitch Festival, The Knitting & Stitching Show and Good Housekeeping Live.
Louise Gookey is a lifestyle presenter and journalist who is passionate about sustainability and conscious consumerism. Her journey into sustainability began after discovering the environmental impact of fast fashion, which sparked a deeper curiosity about consumerism and how we can make more thoughtful choices without harming the planet. Louise has presented for BBC Good Food, The Ideal Home Show, The Natural and Organic Beauty Expo, Global Radio and Move IQ, and has hosted a wide range of events, including the World Fashion Awards, The European Natural Beauty Awards, The National Reality TV Awards and The National Film Awards. Alongside her presenting work, Louise writes and creates monthly content for Candis Magazine, sharing practical green living tips and sustainable swaps, and contributes features on sustainable travel destinations for The Luxury Report. She is a textile ambassador for the Soil Association and is thrilled to be working with Sustainable Fashion Week on Season 2 of Reconnection, continuing her mission to discover more conscious, planet-friendly living.
Sustainable Fashion Week is one of the key annual programmes for A Single Thread CIC. We creatively campaign across the year for easy changes to citizen fashion habits, moving from damaging fast fashion to sustainable fashion choices - including swapping, mending, buying secondhand and repurposing existing garments.
