Mainly inspired by a 1999 movie, many people suspect we may be living in a computer simulation of some sort. If we are, how can we tell? Maybe by looking at some ideas from physics, which has some truly unusual ideas as to the nature of things. The universe might be made of tiny vibrating strings, or physicalized information. It might be a hologram, or a big brain, or an artifact of statistics. All these ideas seem to point to an underlying code of some kind. Or maybe everything we think we know was just created last Thursday.
