Red Sox Trade for Oviedo, Designate Criswell for Assignment
Update: 2025-12-05
Description
The Boston Red Sox have acquired right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo from the Pittsburgh Pirates, along with left-handed pitcher Tyler Samaniego. To make room for these new acquisitions, the Red Sox designated right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell for assignment. Criswell, who had a 3.57 ERA in 17.2 innings this season, is out of minor league options and could be claimed off waivers or traded before the process is complete. If he clears waivers, Criswell could either accept an assignment to Triple-A or become a free agent.
