Rediscovering the “Upside of Disruption” with Terence Mauri
Update: 2025-04-23
Description
In a business environment filled with disruptive forces, we need to keep discovering ways to thrive – even as we’re adapting to the unknown. Yes, we’re hearing from CEOs that AI and other emerging technologies, fluctuating economic conditions, and many other kinds of disruptions are setting up major challenges for moving their companies into the future. But what if, in the middle of these challenges, you and your leadership team could discover the “upside of disruption”? New opportunities can emerge when you look at a situation from different angles.
That’s why we’re revisiting our Fan-Favorite conversation with returning guest Terrence Mauri. He’s the founder of the management Think Tank Hack Future Lab and a world-leading expert on leadership, AI, and disruption. An award-winning author and keynote speaker, Terence has been described as an influential and outspoken thinker on the future of Leadership by Thinkers 50, the global ranking authority of top management thinkers. He is also an adjunct professor at IE. Business school and a mentor at MIT. His most recent book, “The Upside of Disruption: The Path to Leading and Thriving in the Unknown,” was published in September 2024, and we were pleased to be part of the book launch.
We discuss how disruption can actually be a powerful force for growth, innovation, and renewal. This can happen when leaders choose to view disruptive forces with fresh eyes and engage it with courage and curiosity. We also talk about three immediately useful ideas beginning to discover the “upside of disruption”
We always overestimate the risk of doing something new and underestimate the risk of standing still. — Terence Mauri
