Today, I’m speaking with a reader with a very specific request, but I’m also confident that our conversation will appeal to a wide range of readers. Whether they think they love this style of book or not.

Lynn Bain lives in Dallas with her family. She describes herself as an accidental entrepreneur, and while she loves to read a wide range of genres and styles, she came to me because she’d really love to identify good business books to read alongside her beloved stack of fiction.

The only problem is Lynn’s tried a bunch of business books and they haven’t worked out well for her, which we’ll talk about today. She knows there are good titles out there and would love to find them, because she suspects they will really benefit her, personally and professionally.

I really love this topic and can’t wait to explore it with Lynn. Hopefully, we will find some business picks that will feel helpful, inspiring, and relevant for her and also for other business owners, nonfiction fans, and curious readers tuning in today.

Please share your recommendations for Lynn and other business-curious readers by leaving a comment below.

[00:00:00 ] ANNE BOGEL: It sounds like while you have a pretty finely tuned, I don't know, is radar the right word for finding books for yourself right now?

LYNN BAIN: Yeah.

ANNE: This isn't really serving you yet in this realm of your reading life.

LYNN: Not even remotely.

ANNE: Oh my gosh. Okay, I have so many questions. So many questions.

Hey readers, I'm Anne Bogel, and this is What Should I Read Next?. Welcome to the show that's dedicated to answering the question that plagues every reader, what should I read next? We don't get bossy on this show. What we will do here is give you the information you need to choose your next read. Every week we'll talk all things books and reading and do a little literary matchmaking with one guest.

[00:00:48 ] Readers, our Fall Book Preview is right around the corner. And one of the simplest ways to make sure you never miss our premier events like this one is by joining our Patreon community.

Members of our What Should I Read Next Patreon enjoy our seasonal previews, our summer reading guide, our team's Best Books of the Year, and of course our weekly bonus episodes that feature me alongside members of our What Should I Read Next? team talking about their favorite books, genres, what's happening in all of our reading lives, you name it.

If you listen to our podcast each week and think, I want more book talk in my life, our Patreon is the place for you. Our Fall Book Preview is coming up fast and includes our live unboxing party on Thursday, September 18th, and our 12-page digital booklet with all the titles we talk about plus more useful stuff.

It's always a great time and our Patreon members, along with our book clubbers and a la carte ticket holders, are invited to enjoy all our Fall Book Preview goodies. Our Patreon members enjoy good stuff like this and also make a very tangible contribution to our show, supporting our team financially with their monthly or annual memberships.

[00:01:53 ] In an economy where so much is shifting and a lot of the revenue streams that have supported shows like ours, and specifically What Should I Read Next? in the past, are changing, I can't tell you how much our Patreon community support means.

Just like everything we do here at What Should I Read Next? HQ, our Patreon bonus episodes and seasonal guides, and everything we make are all created by hand by me and our team. We don't use generative AI. We don't use algorithm-generated recommendations. We make it up from scratch every week.

So if you'd like to support our work and our team of real humans creating satisfying episodes for your listening pleasure, please come and check out our Patreon community. That's at patreon.com/whatshouldireadnext.

Now, readers, for today's episode, if you are not new around here, you already know that I love speaking to guests in search of books that fit a very specific niche or who have very precise readerly interests.

[00:02:52 ] Today, I'm speaking with a reader with a very specific request, but I'm also confident that our conversation will appeal to a wide range of readers, whether they think they love this style of book or not.
