Reg Cook: The fastest senior citizen on Earth
Update: 2025-11-15
Description
This week, New Zealand motor racing legend Reg Cook will attempt to set a new, world land-speed record in Bolivia. The 78-year-old, who already holds five world speed records, is hoping to hit 880 kilometres per hour (550 mph). The record attempt is taking place at 3656m above sea level on the largest salt flat in the world. At that altitude the air is thinner, which means less resistance, and more speed. Reg joins Jim to talk about the very long build-up to the record attempt, the hiccups that have almost scuppered the venture and whether the record is in sight.
