Remembering Mike Flanagan: A Baseball Legend
Update: 2025-12-16
Description
Today, we honor Mike Flanagan, a legendary left-handed pitcher who played eighteen seasons in Major League Baseball. Known for his impressive career with the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays, Flanagan won the Cy Young Award in 1979 and amassed 167 wins with a 3.90 ERA. He joined the Blue Jays in 1987, making a significant impact in their playoff push. Flanagans most memorable moment was an eleven-inning performance against the Detroit Tigers. After retirement, he remained involved in baseball and was admired for his character. Tragically, he passed away in 2011 due to depression. Also celebrating a birthday today is former Blue Jay Tyler Chatwood, who turns 36.
