In food-haven Malaysia, no gathering is complete without a feast. Malaysians are known for our love of makan-makan! We like to pile our plates, but we often don’t finish our food! And the extra-large portion that could have filled two or three hungry bellies often goes to waste, ending up in our landfills, producing green house gases heating up the planet. And this is happening alongside growing food insecurity among the urban poor. In this episode, we talk to Alvin AJ Chen and the efforts of the aptly-named NGO, What a Waste Malaysia, to rescue good food and tackle urban poverty hunger.
