Rick Blangiardi - Honolulu Mayor-Elect
Description
Maleko McDonnell and Flashee Flash are on the road interviewing Honolulu's next mayor, Rick Blangiardi. Hawaii's Maleko and Flash are broadcasting from the Longboard Lounge and SWELL pool deck at the Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach. Season 3 of the Maleko & Flash podcast is socially distanced still delightfully socially-awkward. Brooke mixes up two of the Alohilani Resort's most popular drinks, and Nick returns to tell our viewers how to get exclusive Kama'aina perks! About our Guest: The only mayoral candidate born on the mainland, Rick Blangiardi for Mayor, went to UH and became a football coach, a role he held until 1977. Throughout the 1990s, Blangiardi held leadership positions at television stations throughout the mainland with stints in Seattle, New York, San Francisco, St. Louis, and Los Angeles. At the end of the decade, he was president of Telemundo Group, the Spanish language television network. In that role, he said he led the 2001 sale of Telemundo to NBC, “the largest acquisition of a foreign-language broadcaster in the United States by one of the major television networks,” according to The New York Times. Since 2002 he has headed both KHON and KGMB. After the 2008 financial crash, Blangiardi led the consolidation of two stations, KGMB and KHNL, into Hawaii News Now.
