Description

Monica Ramirez is an activist, author, civil rights attorney, and social entrepreneur engaged in direct service and advocacy for farm workers, Latinas, and women. I learned about her work when I read her “Dear Sisters” letter in TIME Magazine, which helped spark the TIME’S UP movement. We spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic and the vulnerability of frontline workers, especially migrant and undocumented farmworkers. Monica explains why these essential workers are even more vulnerable now, how daytime panic-buying in some rural areas has left them to go hungry themselves, and what must be done in this moment to keep all the people who feed this country healthy, safe, and free from fear of enforcement actions that place them in even greater danger.
