You knew this was coming, right?! It only made sense that I finish my Adele song cycle from her album "21".
This mix also completes my goal of mixing her singles in styles from 4 different decades (my other Adele mixes were done to sound like songs from the 60's, 70's and 80's). Technically, the song that inspired this mix (Soul II Soul's "Back To Life") came out in 1989, but this kind of sound went well into the 90's.
I changed the original feel of the song into a smooth R&B groove. Thought her vocals are forceful, there are sections with long soft melodic phrases which i emphasized with the piano and strings. I took the original sample that Soul II Soul used for their remix of "Back To Live"(The Jam by Graham Central Station) and recreated the rest of the drum parts. I also play around with the harmony. Surprise!
