Description

The doctrine of Nullification is that a State (or lesser entity) may over-ride (in some fashion) the Federal Government. Is this possible? Here we go over the concept of a Nationalist government, a general government formed by the People; verses a Federalist government, a general government formed by the States. How you answer that question will determine whether you believe in Nullification. Senator Robert C. Haynes from South Carolina in 1830 believed in a Federalist form of government, Senator Daniel Webster from Massachusetts believed in a Nationalist form of government. What are you? Let's look at their EPIC debate in the U.S. Senate January of 1830. We also go into the Quasi-War with France in the late 1790, culminating in the Alien and Sedition Acts of Congress 1797! Free Speech was outlawed, Free Assembly, Freedom to Redress the Government all were curtailed. How did some of the founders respond...Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison spoke - by State Resolution.

**Note: In this an other podcasts I refer to Daniel Webster as "Webster's Dictionary, that Daniel Webster." Senator Daniel Webster and English Linguist Noah Webster were cousins. Noah compiled Webster's Dictionary not Daniel. What good is life if you don't make a few silly mistakes? :)
