This week on the Unlocked Potential Podcast, we’re honored to share the story of David Gorman, a man who has transformed his life from the depths of addiction to becoming a beam of hope for others.

David grew up in Coolock with a loving family and a happy childhood, but as he entered his teenage years, he witnessed friends getting involved in gangs, drugs, and violence. After leaving from school in 5th year and attending Youthreach, his life took a dark turn. By the age of 23, David fell into cocaine addiction, which spiraled into a five-year battle.

During this time, he faced immense challenges, including losing 30kg in weight, battling suicidal thoughts, experiencing drug-induced psychosis, and accumulating €40k in debt. At his lowest point, David found himself sitting on a motorway about to end his life.

In an effort to escape, he moved abroad to Denmark, but his addiction worsened. It wasn’t until he hit rock bottom and moved to Sweden after becoming clean that his recovery truly accelerated. Now, 3.5 years clean, David has rebuilt his life in remarkable ways.

Today, David works as a supervisor at the same organization where he once had drug counseling himself, helping young adults whose lives have been affected by drugs. He has also built a thriving online coaching business, using his story to inspire and guide others.
