According to America After 3pm, demand for afterschool programs continues to grow. Today, 10.2 million children participate in afterschool programs. Another 19.4 million children would participate if a program were available. Most school-age children either are, or want to be, in an afterschool program.

Lauren Herterich wanted to go to med school and never expected to be in education, yet here she is running a phenomenally successful out-of-school time program at the College of Charleston called Kids on Point.

According to the SC Afterschool Alliance, out of school time programs are an essential component of keeping kids safe, inspiring learning, and helping working families. With so much benefit to be gained, it is important that out of school time programs understand and implement research-based best practices.

And talk about COLLABORATION!  Robin and Lauren share common goals, practices, and wins during this robust conversation about all out of school time programs, including the 2 summers they worked together at ECM's Summer STEAM Institute that won the 2016 NY Life Excellence in Summer Learning Award from the National Summer Learning Association.
