You play as Simon Belmont armed with a magical whip, enter Castlevania and defeat Count Dracula. One of Konami’s most critically acclaimed series and best selling of all time, eventually spawning not only a vast series of games, but comics, tv series, spin offs, reboots and spiritual successors.
Akamatsu was heavily influenced by the Universal Picture films Hammer Horror films. He aimed to create a game run which players felt like they were in a classic horror movie. Later being referred to as “a Japanese transposition of the Hammer Horror films I grew up with and loved.”
