Description
I lost Brooks in cyber space so I am alone this go, so might as well talk about something I have been defining from day 1, and hope that it benefits you on your search for the Holy Forge... er Grail of decks. Down Below I am Copy and Pasting my transcript for you guys in case you wanted notes this week. Hope you enjoy the cast and as always feedback welcome.
3 Part Deck Construction Evaluation with sub parts
1) Evaluate the tangible and quantifiable elements of a deck.
a) RAW amber: The Raw PIPs printed on each card.
Target per tier breakdown for me is 12 minimum, tier 2 = 15, tier 1 = 18 plus.
b) Amber control: any effect that manipulates the current state of the players amber pool.
Type one: Steal, and Loss affects
Type two: Capture, and Hinder, Gains
c) Board State: any effect that manipulates the current state of the board
Type one: Mass hard removal affects
Type two: Situational removal, and mass soft removal/stun affects
Type three: Soft Removal (Temporary delayed effects(1 turn stalls)
d) Key Cheats: Any card that cheats the key mechanic
Type one: Generates a key mid turn
Type two: Generates a direct key stall effect(Key denials, Additional Key Costs)
e) Deck Manipulation: Abilities that generate card draw or deny opponents cards
Type one: Multiple Cards per play or denial.
Type two: Archiving or denying archive ability
Type three: Single target draw or card denial
f) Artifact Control: Anything that controls an artifact
Type one: Hard removal
Type two: Soft removal that is reoccurring
Type three: Stealing an artifact, or stalling an artifact
Type four: Taxing affects on artifacts
2) The "IT" factor of the deck
The IT factor is the thing that makes the deck go, how do the three houses feed into a cohesive and effective strategy that
leads to a consolidated win condition with proper lines.
3) Piloting is the most important step. Play the deck and see how it feels to your intuitive play line thoughts and the strategy
that most fits your natural play instincts. This makes your game more fluid and reduces the chances of unintentional mistakes.
This is the best of ways to find your it deck and never sleep on a deck because of pure numbers as they can easily be misleading
because there are only so many pure mathematical things you can take into account and they can't accurately fully denote the values
of synergies and play lines.
