Deborah Attard Portughes is the Chief Executive Officer at Women and Infants Research Foundation (WIRF) which is Western Australia’s leading independent research institution dedicated to improving the health of women and babies. WIRF’s innovative achievements to date include reducing the rate of preterm birth by 8% across Western Australia and developing ground breaking research into creating an artificial womb which will allow preterm babies to live out of the uterus.
Deborah (also known as Deb) shares valuable insights into her role as a leader and how she enjoys leading by example. Deb believes we should all be the change we want to see.
Deb’s career journey started in Malta working as a qualified family and commercial Mediator, then TV presenter, and also an Accredited trainer in Edward deBono’s Six Thinking Hats and DATT (Direct Attention Thinking) tools. In 2003 Deb moved to Australia and worked at the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. During this role Deb travelled extensively throughout Australia and also met Sir David Attenborough along the way!
