Ali’s رضي الله عنه election to the high post: Madinah was leaderless. Chaos was spread. The time came for Imam Ali رضي الله عنه to become the Khalif.
al-Ghaafiqee Ibn Harb, one of the rebel leaders, led Madinah for 5 days upon the martyrdom of Uthmaan رضي الله عنه. The rebels searched for a new leader, so they could get the blame off themselves for the crimes they had committed.
The Companions رضي الله عنهم approach Ali رضي الله عنه and say you are the most worthy of Khilafat amongst us. Ali رضي الله عنه called for the allegiance to be done in the blessed Masjid.
Ali رضي الله عنه later would say the only reason he became Khalif was out of fear that Islam would diminish.
