Keil started out as a business analyst for McKinsey (2008-10) and, via number of start-ups, came to Bearing, which was established in mid-2019. Based in Palo Alto, California – the heart of Silicon Valley – Bearing describes itself as a team of engineers and product people, with deep expertise in building scalable AI-enable products, and a passion to help the shipping industry become greener and more efficient.’

In conversation with ship.energy contributing editor Mark Williams, Keil runs through the evolution of Bearing. He explains how AI can help shipowners in improving their vessels’ carbon intensity index (CII) ratings and also looks at the impact that predictive analytics will have on technical and commercial ship management.
