SORD: Q3 Update 9 – Skynet Adjacent AI Warning, 19 states to deploy National Guard, Mass Military Mobilization to Domestic Crime, Cyber Risks to U.S., DOJ limits 2nd Amendment to only Plaintiffs
Description
Across the country- MS, LA, TN, WV, SC, and OH deployed National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. to support federal policing operations; IL was identified as a possible next site for Guard and federal law enforcement deployments; AL, AR, FL, GA, ID, IN, IA, LA, NE, NV, NM, OH, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, and WY prepared Guard mobilizations to assist DHS; and in IN, the Seventh Circuit upheld an injunction blocking the state’s 25-foot police buffer law. Also, AZ suffered a major dust wall caused by monsoons leading to widespread power outages. Nationally- Russian and Iranian cyber actors escalated attacks on U.S. infrastructure, including a ransomware hit on Colt Technology and a data breach at Allianz Life exposing 2.8M customers; Apple and Google released emergency updates to fix critical security flaws; the “Godfather of AI” warned AI could surpass human intelligence, causing unemployment and existential risks; and the DOJ sought to limit 2nd Amendment relief in a TX-related case, narrowing injunction scope in Elite Precision Customs v. ATF and setting a national precedent that could limit 2nd Amendment protections to only those listed in lawsuits against the DOJ.
