PROVO, UT – The Big 12 title race has officially narrowed, with No. 15 BYU emerging from a chaotic weekend as the conference’s lone undefeated team. The Cougars (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) held off a late charge from rival No. 23 Utah, securing a 24-21 victory in a thrilling Holy War matchup on Saturday night.

Quarterback Bear Bachmeier cemented his clutch reputation, delivering a game-sealing 22-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The win marks BYU’s third straight against the Utes, a feat not accomplished in Provo since the early 90s. Running back LJ Martin, the Big 12's leading rusher, added 122 yards on a career-high 26 carries, wearing down the Utah defense.

The win was magnified by a shock upset in Tempe, where Arizona State (5-2, 3-1) stunned previously unbeaten and No. 7 Texas Tech (6-1, 3-1) with a dramatic 26-22 victory. ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt, returning from injury, orchestrated a 75-yard game-winning drive in the final 1:26 , capped by a Raleek Brown touchdown run with 34 seconds left. The Red Raiders’ offense struggled without starting QB Behren Morton.

With No. 24 Cincinnati (6-1, 4-0) also winning, the top of the Big 12 standings is now a tight race between BYU and Cincinnati, followed closely by Houston, Texas Tech, and Arizona State, all with one conference loss. The Cougars next travel to Iowa State, while the Sun Devils host Houston in another critical league matchup
