Sal Tonge talks to Kanj Nicholas - Artist
Description
Sal Tonge chats to Artist Kanj Nicholas, a Sri Lankan born artist, now living in the West Midlands. Kanj talks about how she tries to create balance of health and family in her arts practice, and the obstacles she has overcome to get where she is today.
Kanj's Sri Lankan roots have infused in her a lifelong love of bold and uplifting colours. She draws on childhood memories; of times spent in hers mothers’ garden filled with exotic plants and vegetables. These experiences continue to form her adult life. Her garden and allotment are a constant source of inspiration for her paintings. Sri Lanka is a country that is rich in culture and history. Living and growing up alongside different religions has given her a respect for all cultures, and a strong spiritual outlook on life. She uses symbols to convey a message of hope and optimism in her art.
