Sam Dewhurst – Teacher
Description
Educated at Rugby School and Durham University, Sam Dewhurst holds a degree in Classics and has cultivated a diverse career spanning the military, business, and education sectors.
After completing his studies, Sam entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1990, and was commissioned into the Queen’s Own Hussars. He served in Germany, Cyprus, and Northern Ireland, gaining invaluable leadership experience over a three-year period.
Following his military service, Sam transitioned to the corporate world, working as a headhunter for seven years in the City. This experience provided him with a unique perspective on talent and leadership, which he would later bring to his educational career. He then pursued his passion for teaching, earning a PGCE from King’s College London before becoming a Classics master at Uppingham School in 2002.
Over the next two decades, Sam played a pivotal role at Uppingham, first as a teacher and then as a Housemaster from 2006 to 2021. His leadership and dedication to student welfare were key to his success in this role. In 2021, Sam transitioned to become Head of Careers and Legacy Manager, where he focused on guiding students through their career pathways and fostering long-term connections within the Uppingham community.
Sam’s extensive experience across military, business, and educational settings has equipped him with a wealth of knowledge on leadership, career development, and personal growth. He remains passionate about helping students unlock their potential and navigate the complexities of the modern world.
