Scammer Sells Untrained Dogs as Service Animals
Update: 2025-12-20
Description
Mark Mathis, a man from Apex, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to scamming families by selling untrained dogs as service animals. His company, Ry-Con Service Dogs, charged up to $17,000 per dog, targeting families with autistic children or those dealing with PTSD, anxiety, and panic attacks. Mathis used Briard dogs, which are wary of strangers, aggressive, and bad with other animals. Many families received untrained, underweight, or sick dogs, leading to heartbreak and even a tragic suicide. Mathis is ordered to pay $353,000 in restitution and is banned from training or selling service animals for life. Checkout Solipillow.com
