I talked to Marg because I wanted to find out more about the new group she started, The Fair Field Foundation. My time in consulting archaeology was short-lived and I wanted to find out how Marg was trying to make it a better place.

In this episode we talk about:

  • Marg’s academic and employment journey prior to archaeology and how she got into Alberta archaeology

  • how her economics degree and employment and life experience influenced her business perspective in archaeology

  • her experiences as a woman in archaeology

  • unconscious bias, “failing up”, a success – based vs. limiting mindset, and how the word “just” implies a limiting belief

  • starting her own company to achieve her own potential, and how she views “failure”

  • archaeology as a sustainable career

  • The Fair Field Foundation and how it aims to support and mentor women in archaeology across Canada

  • how Marg views the future of Alberta archaeology in the next 5 – 10 years

Memoirs of a Reluctant Archaeologist is a fiction novel I wrote inspired by my experiences as a consulting archaeologist. I just created this teaser for the book. The ebook is on sale — for FREE — July 1- 31, 2023. You can download it or buy the print copy (no discount) from your favourite ebook retailer.
