我一直没有找到“小区”对应的英语

Wǒ yìzhí méiyǒu zhǎodào "xiǎoqū" duìyìng de Yīngyǔ

I have never found an exact English equivalent for "xiǎoqū" (residential complex).

小区的意思是一个独立的住宅区

Xiǎoqū de yìsi shì yīgè dúlì de zhùzhái qū

A "xiǎoqū" refers to an independent residential area.

通常一个小区会有围栏围起来

Tōngcháng yīgè xiǎoqū huì yǒu wéilán wéi qǐlái

Usually, a "xiǎoqū" is enclosed by fences.

小的小区有一两栋楼

Xiǎo de xiǎoqū yǒu yī liǎng dòng lóu

A small "xiǎoqū" has one or two buildings,

而大的小区可以有几十栋楼

Ér dà de xiǎoqū kěyǐ yǒu jǐ shí dòng lóu

while a large one can have dozens of buildings,

容纳数万人

Róngnà shù wàn rén

accommodating tens of thousands of people.

but you end up drawing a school 3 kilometers away.

Nǐ děi dài zhe nǐ de xiǎohái měitiān wǎngfǎn 3 gōnglǐ

You have to take your child to and from school, traveling 3 kilometers round trip every day.

Zhè shì dàjiā tǔcáo jiào duō de wèntí

This is a problem that many people complain about.

我家的房子旁边就有一个小学

Wǒ jiā de fángzi pángbiān jiù yǒu yīgè xiǎoxué

There is a primary school right next to my house.

我们这里没有实行“划片”

Wǒmen zhèlǐ méiyǒu shíxíng "huàpiàn"

The "zoning" system is not implemented here,

所以按规定，我们就是读这个学校

Suǒyǐ àn guīdìng, wǒmen jiù shì dú zhège xuéxiào

so according to the rules, this is the school my child should attend.

而且只能读这个学校

Érqiě zhǐ néng dú zhège xuéxiào

In fact, it's the only school my child can attend.

但是这片区域的人群不太理想

Dànshì zhè piàn qūyù de rénqún bù tài lǐxiǎng

However, the demographic in this area is not ideal.

学校虽然硬件不错

Xuéxiào suīrán yìngjiàn bùcuò

Although the school's hardware (facilities) is good,

但软件上不是好学校

Dàn ruǎnjiàn shàng bù shì hǎo xuéxiào

When it comes software,it’s not a good school.

也就是老师、学生、教育理念、成绩排名等等

Yě jiù shì lǎoshī、xuéshēng、jiàoyù lǐniàn、chéngjì páimíng děngděng

This includes aspects like teachers, students, educational philosophy, academic rankings, and so on.
