Scientists create 3D computer model of inside of nasal cavity
Update: 2024-11-15
Description
A team of scientists in Auckland and Germany have created a 3D computer model of the inside of the nasal cavity and part of the cranial cavity, basically the cubbyhole where your brain is. It's hoped the reconstruction of the human olfactory system, the part the nervous system that gives you your sense of smell, will help in the development of treatments for Parkinson's disease. Losing your sense of smell is one of the earliest indicators of Parkinsons disease and also Alzheimers, but it often goes undiagnosed. University of Auckland Professor Maurice Curtis spoke to Lisa Owen.
