- The Women in Podcasting Awards has a new name for 2025 - The Women Podcasters Awards. The awards start receiving nominations in February - but are currently looking for sponsors.
- Vox Media has made a number of redundancies. It’s unclear how many impact podcasting at the company. Meanwhile, Semafor says that This American Life is planning to reduce staff, and has also quietly changed its “about” page, revising its audience down from 4mn to 3mn.
- What’s in your wallet? Is it helping itself to your affiliate money? It’s not just Honey who has been stealing affiliate codes; Capital One’s Shopping browser extension has been doing much the same thing, according to a lawsuit filed this week - if you’re asking listeners to use a promo code when buying a product, chances are that Capital One is rewriting that code as their own. And you can link your listeners directly to your show on YouTube Music without having to upload your show to YouTube itself. Best yet, it even counts for your download numbers. - New on Airwave: SpyCast from the International Spy Museum is back with new host Sasha Ingber. She'll bring you the latest insights and intriguing tales from spies, secret agents, and covert communicators, with a focus on how this secret world reaches us all in our everyday lives.
- James O’Brien Daily is launched this week by the UK broadcaster LBC - taking O'Brien's three hour broadcast show and producing a 60-minute version for podcast. (For all the "pivot to video", posts of highlights of O'Brien's show have done well on YouTube for years).
- The BBC World Service and CBC have launched The Con: Kaitlyn’s Baby today. A young mother called Kaitlyn tells tales of rape, baby loss, and even a coma. Many try to help her. Then the truth comes out – it’s all lies. You can listen to the whole thing on BBC Sounds and CBC True Crime Premium; and it's available weekly on open RSS.
- A new series in the Monster true-crime podcast franchise, Monster: BTK, launches today from Tenderfoot TV and iHeartMedia. It's the sixth season, and focuses on "BTK", the true story of Dennis Rader, known as the BTK Killer (Bind, Torture, Kill), who murdered at least 10 people in Kansas between 1974 and 1991.
