Daily Reading from the USCCB: Mark 6:7-13
In chapter three Mark showed us Jesus choosing twelve of His disciples to be in a special relationship with Him. Now in chapter six it seems that they’ve had enough training and are ready to go out on mission.
Jesus makes it plain that they are to go without pretensions, without elegance, with only basic comforts. They were not to make demands on the people in whose houses they stayed.
Their message was a message of repentance; a call to change of heart, to acceptance of the kingdom that Jesus offered. They drove out demons and cured the sick by anointing them with oil. Their preaching was simple and straightforward: God wants to give you a new life. Be open to it.
