Sonja Marino, Dealing With Grief
Description
My guest, Sonja Marino, has been a widow for 13 years. She was married to her husband for 18 years when he passed away and together for 20 years. He had congestive heart failure and died of a heart attack on their front porch in her arms. He left behind 4 children, a son from Sonja's previous marriage, and their three daughters. Leaving a hole in their family that is yet to be healed.
During the family's healing journey, Sonja's son Jake developed a Heroin drug addiction and struggled for years. During this time he lost custody of his son and his relationship with his family. He died in November of 2022. of an overdose at age 34.
Sonja struggles every day with the loss of her son and husband. She is very open about the good and bad days. Sonja tried to honor her husband and son by getting up in the morning and experiencing the joy where she can. Grief does not have an end date. It demands the time it wants; in the manner it chooses. It is a force within itself.
Sonja has learned to watch grief take the ones she loves most, knock her down, drag her under and make her beg for breath. With this, she leans into it. Allowing grief to swallow her, because once it passes, we get back up. GET UP! We move forward. We look for love, the moment of peace.
Sonja's journey spreads awareness and a realistic view of how the realistic state of grief should be approached.
