Soybeans surged at the start of the year, with futures closing higher by fifteen to eighteen cents. January contracts settled at ten dollars forty-seven and a quarter, up seventeen and three-quarters cents. Cash bean prices also rose, with the national average jumping seventeen and a quarter cents to nine dollars eighty-seven and a quarter. Export inspections showed a twenty-four point three percent increase from the prior week, but a twenty-six point seven percent decrease from last year. China led with three hundred ninety-seven thousand sixty-nine metric tons.
