Special Episode: The consequences of ousting Speaker Kevin McCarthy
Description
Friends, we've never done an "emergency pod" before but thought yesterday's big news was worth it. In Congress for the first time ever in US history, the Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy was removed from the position. Rep. Matt Gaetz called for the motion to vacate, and in a vote 216-210, all Democrats and 8 Republicans voted McCarthy out of the position. The House cannot be in session without a speaker and will meet next week to try and vote in a new speaker.
We thought this news has great consequences electorally, for Congress, for the economy, and for future bipartisanship and so we wanted to have the conversation with you.
