Description
Spokane Residents Rejoice as City and County Leaders Reach Agreement on Emergency CallsSpokane residents can breathe a sigh of relief as city and county leaders have reached a crucial agreement regarding emergency calls. The city of Spokane will remain part of the regional nine-one-one system, giving them enough time to establish their own dispatch service. This breakthrough comes after long-standing tensions between the city and the Spokane Regional Emergency Communications service, which had threatened to leave the city without a dispatch solution by the end of the year. The agreement outlines a phased approach for Spokane to take over its dispatch services. By October of 2026, the city will begin answering non-emergency Crime Check calls. Then, by January of 2027, the city will handle secondary dispatching for the fire department. Finally, by January of 2028, all nine-one-one calls made within Spokane will be answered by city dispatchers. This resolution marks a significant turning point in what had been a tense relationship, ensuring that emergency services in Spokane will continue to operate smoothly and effectively for its citizens.
