Steam ATTACKED by the ADL! Claim Gamers Using "Hate Speech" ... and Too Many Pepes?!
Update: 2024-11-16
Description
The ADL accuses Steam of harboring extremism and hatred, claiming to have found millions of examples of extremist content including hate symbols and tens of thousands of terrorism-related items based on an analysis of 458 million user profiles.
Pepe the Frog and swastikas make up 54.6% of detected symbols on Steam, according to the ADL’s report, which labels these as extremist symbols.
The ADL criticizes Steam’s "permissive approach" to content policy, which only forbids harassment and disruptive behavior but not hate speech specifically.
Steam’s ad hoc moderation is deemed largely ineffective by the ADL, with examples like removing Pepe the Frog due to a DMCA takedown rather than hate speech concerns.
The ADL claims white supremacist mass murderers use ISIS and Hamas flags as avatar images on Steam, highlighting the platform’s alleged extremism problem.
