Jo Elizabeth Pinto was among the first blind students to integrate public schools in the 1970s when federal laws first allowed disabled children to be educated alongside their peers. In 1992, she earned a degree in Human Services from the University of Northern Colorado, and while teaching disabled students to use adaptive technology, she went on to complete a second degree in Nonprofit Management from the Metropolitan State College of Denver in 2004. In 2022, she was honored as a Corn Mother—a nurturer of the community. Today, Jo works as a freelance editor and braille proofreader, continuing to nurture accessibility, literacy, and empowerment in her community.

As an author, Jo entertains her readers while giving them food for thought. In her fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, she draws deeply from personal experience to illustrate that hope is always an action away. Her unique voice and authentic storytelling have inspired countless readers to find strength, humor, and light in life’s challenges.

Jo lives in Colorado with her husband and their teenage daughter. Their lively household includes her guide dog Spreckles, a poodle/Maltese mix named Leo, three birds, and an aging cat who answers to Sam-I-Am when the mood strikes.
