In the summer of 2025, a Swedish mining company, LKAB, moved a 113-year-old timber church in Kiruna, a town dependent on mining for its existence. This relocation is part of a decade-long project to shift the entire town due to ground subsidence from expanding iron ore mining and the discovery of Europes largest rare earth deposit.
