Way too often, professionalism is a matter of how well you emulate or "fit in" with the gatekeepers. The more you look like, act like, and dress like the gatekeepers, the more they like you. Oops! I meant the more "professional" you are.

One of the problems with this social acceptance algorithm is that it forces people to pretend to be someone other than their true self. It leads to excessive and sometimes unnecessary code switching. But guess what? Brands code switch too... and usually for the same reasons.
