Grab your sniper rifles, trip-mines and laser guided minigun turrets, friends… because it’s time for a good old fashioned love story! Their eyes meet across a crowded gorge that may be the portal to hell, and from that moment Miles Teller and Anya Taylor Joy are falling, falling deep… into The Gorge. But, are you joining them in the fall into love or something worse? Or are you sitting on the rim, looking down and taking pot-shots?
Our review team is full this week with Peta and Jill on both sides of Apple TV+‘s gorge, Dion as the evil corporate overseer, and in tonights performance the portal to hell will be played by Quinny.
Synopsis
Two highly-trained operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge, protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.

Full text transcript[MUSIC PLAYING] [CAR ENGINE] [CAR ENGINE] [CLATTERING] I have new orders that require me to go dark for at least a year. Maybe more. A special assignment in an undisclosed location. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] As an elite sniper, are you presently under any private or military contract? [MUSIC PLAYING] There’s not a lot of reasons for me right now. What if I gave you a reason? [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] There she is. West Tower Observation Post. You’re home for the next 365 days. There is no outside communication here. What’s that on the other side? That is East Tower. Contact with the other side is strictly forbidden. So what’s the mission? Do you want to keep people from going in the gorge? No. You need to stop us in the gorge. From coming out. What the hell is that? The gorge is the door to hell. And we’re standing guard at the gate. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] Dark. Dark places shall be. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] What’s the truth about this place? This place. What’s the truth by the Gorge? No! [Music] Hello and welcome to the Periodic Tale of Awesome. My name is Dion and tonight I am joined by the wonderful flotatious left-hand side, actually no sorry right-hand side which is Jill and the brooding and charismatic right-hand side which is Peter and uh, Quinny who’s the Gorge. Who’s the Gorge? Who’s the seething black hole underneath? That they’re focused over and me, your friendly narrator, uh, of which there isn’t really one. Anyway, I’m quite happy to be the Gorge. I’m happy to be here covered in mist, inscrutable, um, deep, meaningful and filled with full of demons, full of terrible demons. Yes, that’s what I have to feel today. Right, how are you? It’s almost, February’s almost over. I mean, can you know I believe how long these first two months of 2025 have been? Like very long. Not even. Do you remember in the middle of the pandemic when we thought time was moving at a totally different speed? Well, this is the exact opposite of that. It’s like everything’s happening all at once. What do you mean? Don’t like it. What do you mean? What do you mean you don’t like it? Well, you know, things, things are just different anyway. Um, hi Pete, hi Jill. How are you Jill? I’m well. I’m gonna be Jill over because her name’s gone and I didn’t do that. Sorry, there we go. It’s out now. We’re fine. People can read you. Earlier it was just ill. It was just ill. I wasn’t gonna happen to Pete. Anything exciting? Yeah, just, you know, just usual. Just great. We had a week. Worked. Yeah, I would sleep before. It’s totally fine. Do you want to live your life? Do you want to give us a quick roundup from the one that we reviewed last week, which was Captain America World Police for what were your quick thoughts on it? Because you did say it. Film in which things kind of happened and then it finished. Yeah, yeah. Cool. That’s great. That’s my roundabout. That’s your review? That was my review. Things happened. Then it finished. Yeah, pretty much. I think that’s what I said to Jill afterwards. And also, didn’t they cover all of that emotional ground in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier? Did you find how well it related to that 2011 film, The Incredible Hulk? I mean, my memory of that film is so fuzzy. Yeah, it was actually funny because yesterday I was catching up with some family and in that group, there was like an 11 year old and a 14 year old and they were going to see Captain America on IMAX because it’s exciting. Why not? And they were asking me like, oh, they haven’t seen any of the other films because they were too young and I’m like, great. And they didn’t watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier because they’re just a bit too young. I’m like, great. Can you just summarize the plot? And I’m like, I’m struggling here. And also the film that it’s really based on that has a lot of the interesting things that it was before any of you were born. Or actually, one of you was one years old, like the Incredible Hulk came out. You were one year old. I can’t explain this to like, good luck, take them if they like it. Right. I also want to put out, I’m pretty sure that first incredible Hulk film came out in 2008. Yeah. Well, I thought it was 11. No, Iron Man came out in 2008. Same year. Came out in the same year. So I guess you just look this up with some sort of wizardry that we can’t do the internet, but also shit that I knew because I remember going and seeing them both in the same year because it was the it was the big bang of the start of the MCU because it end of talking to what you might call it. Incredible Hulk. There’s Tony Stark and you’ve just literally seen him that same year. You know, and then you’re right. You can look it up if you want. It’s 2008. You’re absolutely correct. But yes, both of these children had not been born and I didn’t know how to explain that to them. Yeah. The passage of time is a truly terrifying and awful thing. But hopefully they were just like bombarded by IMAX and forgot about it completely. No doubt. Anyway, that’s not what we’re talking about. No, thanks for your review, Pete. I mean, I kept my notes short. Sure. I really appreciate that we picked a final Valentine’s Day film for February. Yeah. No, this was the whole point. I think when I saw that it was announced that it was coming out in like on the February 14th, I went, perfect, wonderful. What a Valentine’s Day treat this is. You know, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’s nice. It’s isn’t your typical Valentine’s Day fair? Probably not. What are you talking about? I mean, in spirit, a f
