The Taiwanese premier has ruled out the possibility of reunification with mainland China. Cho Jung-tai said a “return” is not an option. His remarks came hours after Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned the issue in a phone call with the US President Donald Trump. Taiwan's government has repeatedly rejected what it considers, Beijing's attempts to weaken its sovereignty. Earlier this month, Taiwan became the center of a diplomatic dispute between Beijing and Tokyo. That's after Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi hinted that her country could intervene militarily if China attacked the self-governed island. Her remarks provoked a furious response from Beijing. It suspended seafood imports from Japan and advised its citizens not to travel there.
