Education has been spoken of as the most transformative tool towards national development. It offers the promise of better health and well-being, more equitable gender relations, and increased economic opportunities. The growth of programmes like Teach for India has been trying to create new models of education and opportunity. Simultaneously, a reduction in employment and increasing income inequality are pulling children out of school earlier and earlier. The pandemic has created even more inequalities within this system.
