Technology and Democracy: A Human Rights Approach

Africa's electoral landscape is changing significantly, owing to the interaction of several socio political forces and the increasing adoption of emerging technology. As countries across the continent work to strengthen electoral processes and democratic institutions, technology brings both opportunities and challenges. At the intersection of democracy and technology are human rights issues and concerns that have the potential of undermining democratic principles and reducing citizens' trust in the use of digital technologies in elections.
In this roundtable podcast dialogue themed “Technology and Democracy: A Human Rights Approach”, we shall examine key issues such as AI in election, digital governance, digital democracy, human rights, social justice, censorship, data governance & literacy, political microtargeting amongst other critical areas our esteem speakers will be shining a spotlight on. Collectively we can push for a safer digital space Africa where there is trust, active citizenship, and where everyone can thrive.
