In episode 144 astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield review the intriguing political coupling between the United States Vice President, JD Vance and his wife, Second Lady, Usha Vance.
First, with JD's chart we find an aspirational and fame-seeking Leo Rising. With Venus right there on the ascendant, his charm and relatability are up front and center. His Sun, also in Leo in the twelfth house of things that are hidden, gives this normally bold Leo a shy and hidden side. This gets exaggerated by a harsh square from Saturn. Suppression of self-expression and the hard lessons on cultivating a strong identity are part of his life story.
Next, we look at Usha's chart and see a striking "wedge" configuration that denotes a pointed and focused life. With both the Moon and Mars in Scorpio, we know she is secretive and strategic while adding her stellium in Capricorn proves she is a hard-working corporate climber that understands the importance of social reputation. Her Cancer rising sign tells us she can be both soft and hard-shelled with a strong emphasis on family.
Looking at their synastry, it's evident this relationship isn't what we'd call easy. A Pluto and Mars square to the Sun says someone in the partnership always feels under attack and stuck in an ego battle. Likewise, a Sun square to the Moon tells us of a constant fight between being too soft or too strict. There are mutual Mercury sextiles to Pluto which tells us of deep and probing conversations that center around power and how to use it.
